Melissa McBride
MSN, PMHNP-BC, APN
Co-founder and COO
Melissa brings over twenty years of mental health experience to Atlas Behavioral Health. She began her career as a Mental Health Associate at a 110-bed inpatient psychiatric hospital, where she worked predominantly with children and teenagers. From there, she was quickly promoted to Charge Nurse upon graduating with her BSN from Eastern Kentucky University in 2005, and then ultimately to House Supervisor and Director of Education at the same facility in Lexington, Kentucky. During her years in Kentucky, where she grew up, she gained invaluable experience in handling challenges in both rural and urban/suburban healthcare, a skill she has sharpened and maintained over the years. In her early years as a Psychiatric Registered Nurse, she spent a year in San Diego, CA on a travel nursing assignment, where she cared for clients in the Adult Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit.
Education has always been of utmost importance to Melissa. She obtained her Master of Science in Nursing from Loyola University New Orleans in 2010. This helped provide her with the skills and education for her professional ventures for the next several years. She served in administrative, managerial, educational, marketing, and faculty roles for the next decade- all behavioral health related. She was the Corporate Director of Behavioral Health for a large home health company, where she traveled around the country ( Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Arizona, Nebraska, and Iowa) educating the offices and their nursing staff on care of the psychiatric patient in the home environment.
In 2015, Melissa realized that she ultimately missed the personal interactions/relationships with clients, despite her love for management and education. She returned to school for her Post-Master's Certificate as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Upon graduating from the University of South Alabama in 2019, she began working at a community mental health clinic, where she has worked until the present time. She has obtained vast experience over the last 6 years treating clients of all ages, and with a variety of mental health concerns. She specializes in the treatment of Mood Disorders ( Bipolar, Major Depressive Disorder), Psychotic Disorders ( Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder), ADHD, -co-occuring substance abuse/mental health disorders, Anxiety Disorders and OCD, as well as medication management for children on the Autism spectrum. She treats clients ages 6 and up.
While her professional experience has prepared her for navigating even the most challenging of situations, Melissa believes that her best strategy is meeting her clients where they are without judgment, ensuring their needs are heard and addressed, and supporting them through some of life's most difficult challenges.
She looks forward to working with you!

I am a nurse, a former firefighter/EMT, and a builder of systems that help save lives. I began my journey early — becoming an EMT at 16 and a firefighter at 17 — experiences that shaped my ability to stay calm under pressure and lead in high‑stakes environments. My starting in emergency services before I was old enough to vote, and that early exposure to crisis work, has shaped everything that came after.
I graduated from Temple University with my BSN in 2013. I started my Nursing career on a geriatric Psychiatry unit in Burlington County. I saw the acute need for expanded mental health and substance abuse care in the South Jersey area. No one should have to wait weeks for care.
For the past decade, I’ve specialized in addiction nursing in the outpatient setting, focusing on compassionate, evidence‑based care for individuals navigating substance use disorders.
Over the last seven years, I’ve helped to launch multiple Opioid Treatment Programs from the ground up, driving growth, shaping clinical operations, and expanding access to care in communities that need it most. My work is rooted in action, accountability, and a belief that every person deserves a real chance at recovery.
